The first time I saw Larimar I fell in love with it. Its beautiful blue colouring mixed with intricate white patterns reminded me of the beautiful water of the Ningaloo Reef. I knew I wanted to share it with you so I decided to design a Collection for Mermaid Beach co.
What is Larimar and where is it found?
It is a rare blue pectolite stone found only in one area of the world, the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean. It is one of the most beautiful and rare stones in the world and is mined in a remote mountain range.
The name Larimar came from the combination of the two words Lari (short for Larissa) and Mar (the Spanish word for Sea). Larissa was the name of one of the daughters of the explorers that discovered the stone in 1974.
Larimar has many other names including the Dolphin Stone, the Gemstone of the Caribbean, the Atlantis stone, and Stefilias stone.
How to spot high-quality Larimar
A few factors that affect the quality or grade of Larimar stones and are the colour, pattern, lustre and inclusions/ cracks. Larimar comes in a variety of colours ranging from shades of greens and blues to white. There can be a lot of variation in the intensity of the colour, with some stones being very light blue/ green and some a beautiful deep blue.
High-quality stones are blue with a white pattern that have no cracks, discolouration or inclusions. We use mainly AAA high-quality stones in our collection.
The benefits of Larimar
Larimar is attuned with the throat chakra and it is believed to enhance communication. It also represents clarity and peace and is said to radiate love and healing energy. It is also said to help to ease stress and tension so it is the perfect go-to jewellery to help with relaxation.
Our Larimar Collection
Our collection of Larimar jewellery includes earrings, rings and necklaces, all made from .925 sterling silver. We try and source our stones as ethically as possible and the majority of Larimar we use is AAA quality, so stones are a beautiful blue colour, some with white patterns and with minimal to no natural cracks or inclusions.
